I have compared several schools before my decision. I want to learn Chinese well and I also like to know Chinese culture. And I think the attitude of the teacher, the consultant here are all very positive. I like to stay with them and get the care from th
Recently I’ve been traveling more due to my work with Chinese Company. The result of all this traveling was that my mind
has opened up to the similarities in Languages. I was in Holland and did see the necessity to study Dutch as so few people
speak it. As was working there I found it sometimes I needed to understand so I listened carefully. I was in the north of Holland
where the main language is Fries which is closer to English than Dutch. After a while I found I just seemed to understand. Now
that I’m fluent in Mandarin I’ also noticing that I should have seen all the cognates from other languages. My first teacher from the
US Government told us Chinese was completely different it didn’t have cognates with our western language. That is completely
false. I had noticed I was remember some words more easily than others but it didn’t occur to me to look for all the cognates until
one older teachers asked me. I immediately wrote down a list of twenty or so words without doing any research. Now my mind is
open. I just learned a new work in Spanish to cut and harvest the crops. It is the verb Sugar it is now also my new work in Mandarin
which is to cut Sou. Then the word Jian is added but the So is the same as Spanish. A couple weeks ago I went to Italy. I haven’t been
to Italy for years and spoke Italian as a child. In the evening I was having a conversation with someone telling them I didn’t speak Italian.
He answered back saying," Then what are you speaking right now!" In Italian I found the Mei which is not or the negative in Mandarin
it is Mai in Italian. Li zheli duo yuan in mandarin is from here how far is it; Sono stato li in Italian is I was there. The two Li are used for
places. I’m sure there are many more cognates. Just open your mind and let your imagination flow.
